We are proud to be able to supply Brynje from Norway. The original String underwear.
The idea of net underwear began in the 1930`s with army officer Henrik Brun. Brun took many winter trips in the Hardangervidda, a high, exposed plateau in Norway with a harsh unforgiving climate. He found that the net design provided excellent insulation and warmth yet allowed excessive perspiration and heat to escape during intense activity. Officer Brun`s net underwear was extremely effective but it was not until the 1950`s when Brynje developed the first machine knit cotton shirt that net underwear was available to the general market. The new net underwear was quickly adopted by leading expeditions and Brynje still have the picture from the famous 1954 Everest Expedition with Tenzing Norgay pulling on his Brynje net undershirt!
